Project 1A: Making Comics
Most of us have only a surface understanding of comics, and its full potential as a narrative medium has yet to be fully explored. Project 1 is a quick study on the possibilities and different permutations of the comic book art form.
Objectives of Project
The objectives of this project are as follows:
- To tell simple or complex narratives using the design elements of comics as a storytelling tool.
- To explore and use different techniques of sequential storytelling to create multilayered narratives on a 2D page

Project 2 : The Architecture of Comics
Introduction
Comics are built to tell stories, and stories are told to represent abstract ideas and concept, convey histories and backgrounds, and to show examples of idealised characters or behaviours. This project seeks to find subjects the students are already familiar with (architecture, design, culture, buildings) and frame a short narrative to communicate their idea through the medium of comics. This includes designing backdrops, characters, storylines and layouts, within the limitations of an 12 page black and white comic medium. Design elements should complement the story adaptation, and the concept should be packaged and presented professionally.
Objectives of Project
The objectives of this project are as follows:
- To identify elements of narrative in a story and to replicate/reinvent it for a new setting
- To assemble a simple “pitch” package comprising of story, characters and setting design elements
- To develop skills in communicating the above in a spoken and visual presentation
